The overall goal of the CHAMPs classroom management system is to develop an instructional structure in which students are responsible, motivated, and highly engaged in the specific task at hand. More particularly, the teacher's goal is to teach students directly how to be successful in specific class situations. (Daily Teaching Tools, 2016)
We use the CHAMPs acronym to define and communicate detailed behavioral expectations for different classroom activities such as beginning of class procedures, teacher led instruction, group work, lab activities and end of class procedures. The CHAMPs acronym helps define expectations for the following:
Can students converse during this activity?
About what?
With whom?
For how long?
How do students get attention for help?
How do students get questions answered?
What should they do while they wait for help?
What is the expected end product of this activity?
What is the task or objective?
What expectations are there for collaboration?
For what reasons can students get out of their seats during this activity?
Do they need permission to do so?
What behavior shows that students are participating or not participating?
There are no questions for this one. When CHAMPs expectations are met, students will be successful.
Your teacher will let you know if cell phones are permitted to be out or if you may use them during class.
Please keep them off and in your backpack or pockets when they are not permitted.
